About the Photographer
Allan Tannenbaum
Allan Tannenbaum is a New York-based photographer whose work documents the energy of the downtown music, nightlife and art scene, as well as pivotal moments in modern history. As photo editor and chief photographer of the SoHo Weekly News from 1973 to 1982, he captured the creative rebellion in New York, photographing John Lennon and Yoko Ono alongside the musicians and artists who defined the era.
Tannenbaum went on to an acclaimed career in photojournalism, covering international conflicts and major world events. His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, TIME, Newsweek, and LIFE, and has been exhibited worldwide. His celebrated books include New York in the 70s and John & Yoko: A New York Love Story. Across six decades, his photographs have preserved an unfiltered portrait of music, culture, and history.
