About the Photographer
Terry O’Neill
Terry O’Neill was one of the world’s most collected photographers, with work held in national galleries and private collections worldwide. Beginning his career in the early 1960s, he captured the rise of youth culture and the emerging stars of film, fashion, and music who defined the era.
O’Neill photographed The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in 1963, pioneered backstage photography with artists including David Bowie and Elton John, and captured icons from Winston Churchill and Frank Sinatra to Audrey Hepburn, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, and countless others.
His distinguished career included the Royal Photographic Society Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship, as well as a Commander of the British Empire for services to photography in 2019.
