About the Photographer
T. Eric Monroe
T. Eric Monroe is a visionary photographer and cultural curator whose work offers an intimate glimpse into 1990s hip-hop, skateboarding, and hardcore culture. Born in Somerset, New Jersey, his passion for skateboarding and photography led to early recognition by Thrasher Magazine in 1988 and a prominent role at The Source as photo editor by 1995, where he documented the raw energy of New York City’s hip-hop scene. Beyond photography, Monroe pioneered marketing initiatives in skateboarding through the United Skateboarding Association and collaborated with brands like Activision, Tony Hawk, and Marc Ecko, bridging underground culture and mainstream audiences. In recent years, he has focused on preserving and sharing his archive of 90s hip-hop imagery through the acclaimed book trilogy Rare & Unseen Moments of 90's Hip-Hop, while continuing to inspire global audiences through exhibitions, speaking engagements, and collaborations. Monroe’s work remains a defining testament to creativity, authenticity, and the enduring influence of urban culture.
